Engine Social Dining
ENGINE SOCIAL x DINING
The Engine Social x Dining, based in the heart of Sowerby Bridge, offers a range of delicious small plate dishes. I recently visited the restaurant after receiving a voucher for Christmas and it was absolutely amazing. The decor was what first caught my eye when we walked in. With teal blue chairs popping through the place and hanging greenery falling from the celling, it defiantly looked impressive. It had a warm cosy feel featuring brick walls and herringbone floor as well as an open cooking station. The restaurant was busy and buzzing for a Saturday evening and it was a lovely atmosphere overall.
We began looking at the menu which had so many great options including many vegan and vegetarian options. There was also a special’s menu which drew us in with the halloumi fries. We went for 8 dishes between the 2 of us including a sticky toffee pudding dessert. They kindly recommended we have 2-3 dishes each but with everything looking so inviting we opted for more and I am so glad we did. With them being tapas style ‘small plates’ they came as and when they were ready which I personally like to break up the evening and enjoy each dish individually.
First to arrive was the ‘oven roasted flat bread with a selection of homemade dips‘. The dips were really fresh and tasty and complimented the flatbread perfectly as it was lightly seasoned and crisp. The ‘halloumi fries‘ arrived too and these were the best halloumi fries ever. The fries were topped with pomegranate and other lovely fresh ingredients. This was then followed by the ‘homemade crab potato chips‘, these were ‘crispy potato chips topped with fresh white crab, avocado, miso mayo and mustard seeds‘. This came so beautifully presented too and the flavours were amazing with lots of textures running through.
Moving on to some meatier dishes we had the ‘mini hot chorizo cooked in cider with in house pickled onions on toasted pain a l’ancienne‘ which was lovely as well as ‘baharat spiced lamb, beef and chorizo koftas with peperonata, butternut puree & aleppo chilli‘. I really liked this dish as the koftas were really tender and the peppers were soft and flavoursome. We then had the ‘flat iron steak jalfrezi with cumin puri flatbread‘. I think this was my least favourite dish as the curry like flavours were too overpowering for me but the steak was cooked amazingly, just how I like it, and my boyfriend really liked this dish so it is just down to personal taste.
Lastly, we had some ‘patatas bravas with tomato fritada sauce and aioli‘ and the show stopper ‘sticky toffee pudding‘. I have called it the show stopper because it was the BEST dessert I have ever tasted. I think I will be going back just for a portion of this and a coffee very soon because it was so good. The toffee sauce to the sponge and the ice cream just ran into each other creating a sweet scoop of heaven so if you do head to the Engine after my little review then I would 1000% recommend this dessert.
Overall, I really loved my experience at the Engine and will defiantly be back! This would be a great place to come with friends as you can socialise and dine which is what the Engine promotes. If you want to check them out, have a look at their menu or book a table click here.
